Either a) Join one of our conversations b) join one of the community’s conversations, or c) create your own private or public interaction.

In each room your will be randomly matched with someone else from anywhere in the world. There are 3 main different platforms for conversation – let us walk you through it:

A) Join one of our conversations

We host public interactions on engaging topics. We offer rooms that match people up in debates, advice, and brainstorming, or bring people together to enjoy chatting about web media. We are constantly changing and updating the conversations to reflect current events, heated public debates, and engaging topics.

For instance, after you sign in, you decide to join a debate room titled ‘Is Obama doing a good job as President of the USA?”, You click ‘yes’ or ‘no’, and then are only matched with those who have chosen the other option.

Once in the room, talk for a bit, enjoy yourself, and when you are ready to move on, press “Next Partner” or switch to a different room.

We have integrated a crowd-control system: so after each conversation you rate the person, like on Ebay.  Each time you begin a conversation you are shown the other person’s rating before you start and we blur the screen for the first 5 seconds, so you can skip over immediately if need be. You can even offer a great contributor a “high-five”, as you get more high-fives your rating will advance. A little competition is always fun.

Next, you could join the Mandarin or French room, and speak to people in that language, or you could engage in one of our media rooms, and talk about a recent TED talk you watched. You get the idea.

B) Join a community conversation

Join one of your fellow interactor’s conversations. There is a running list of public Interact Event taking place at that time. Weigh in with your thoughts.

C) Create your own interaction

You can create your own custom event to engage your audience, generate ideas, and raise awareness. Participants get the opportunity to learn, share, and connect with others. Events can be open to the public (Option B) or accessible only by those you invite. We have created three different platforms for Interaction:

1) The standard “Gathering” Interaction is a virtual networking event. Host a weekly discussion for entrepreneurs for instance. Or, a University might utilize TheInteract to host virtual alumni reunions.

2) The “Brainstorming” Interaction harnesses the collective wisdom of groups of people. Each participant can take notes throughout all of their conversations. At the end, we aggregate everyone’s notes and send them to the room-creator. Quick and easy feedback. A non-profit might host an event with their constituency to generate new campaign ideas. Educators might collaborate to evaluate new approaches. Or a business could gather feedback from the general public on a new product line.

3) The “Matching” Room allows you to specify who each person is paired with by breaking the room into two groups. Have students from China paired with Students from Kansas on the topic “American and Chinese diplomacy in the 21st century,” have Democrats debate Republicans over tax cuts, match mentors with mentees, or bring together opposing nationalities or religious groups to host a peace talk. The first step towards understanding is conversation.

You can set a time limit for each interaction if you choose so that people continue to meet and talk to others in the group.

You can also set a password for private rooms.

Once you create the room, send the URL and password to everyone in your community. If it is a public room, it will show up on our Interact Events list.
